Review: Hourglass Veil Retouching Fluid

I feel like the makeup market is so over saturated these days it’s rare that a company comes out with a truely new innovation. Hats off to Hourglass who have done just that. Their veil retouching fluid is designed to touch up and refresh your existing makeup and it works a treat!! When I heard about the concept I knew that the retouching fluid would help me achieve a need I hadn’t fully succeeded in meeting with any other product. I used to use concealer over my make up for touch ups but this but this can lead to cakiness. Hourglass’ serum like formula is specially designed to avoid this whilst providing sheer coverage, evening out skin tone and adding luminosity. This is billed as the dry shampoo of makeup, which is a great metaphor. The product works on top of powder and contains moisturizing hyaluronic acid, plant water and grapefruit extracts. There are 6 shades; mine is ‘fair’:

Below is an example of how this product works. I applied the retouching fluid to the right side of my face over make up that I had been wearing for several hours:

I feel like this side is smoother, brighter and my smile lines are less obvious.

When I’m going to be out for a significant period of time, I pop this little tube and a lip product in my bag and have all I need to refresh and revive my makeup (I was honestly a bit gutted the other day when I was leaving the house for multiple hours and couldn’t find this beauty to bring along!). A few caveats though; although Hourglass state that this can be used over any foundation, I would recommend using this over non water resistant, liquid foundations. I have found that this did not apply well over their own vanish stick foundation or the new (water resistant) Dior backstage face and body foundation. Other than that my only grumble is that I wish the tube was bigger! This item is a handbag must have for me.

What do you use to touch up your make up throughout the day?
