Compare and Contrast: Overnight Lip Masks

If you’re planning on smooching it up on the stroke of 12 tomorrow, applying an overnight lip mask this evening will go a long way towards perfecting your pout. Here are my thoughts on two of the most popular products in this category:

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

I’m a fan of Laneige’s original facial sleeping mask and was not disappointed when the lip version was released. This multitasking mask moisturises, gently exfoliates and smells like fruity heaven!! I have the original berry scent which contains raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, blueberry and goji berry. Grapefruit, apple lime and vanilla scents are now also available. The Vitamin C rich complex melts dead skin cells; meaning I wake up to smoother lips whenever I use this. A patented film helps to retain moisture and lock-in active ingredients such as hydro ion mineral water, evening primrose root extract and Hunza Apricot extract. The inclusion of hyaluronic acid also adds plumping power. The mask feels silky smooth on application and is really comfortable to wear. A cute little applicator is included so you don’t have to put your finger (and potentially germs) into the pot.

Kiehl’s Buttermask for Lips

Buttermask is infused with fairly traded coconut oil and wild mango butter which help reinforce the moisture barrier and nourish lips. Kiehl’s recommend applying a generous layer before bed and reapplying throughout the day as desired. It can also be used to party prep the lips by applying a layer and leaving on for 15 minutes before blotting then applying colour. Buttermask really is smooth as butter and, like the Langeige mask, also feels extremely comfortable on the lips. This one has a faint chocolately smell and doesn’t taste of anything.

Final verdict:

You can’t go wrong with either of these masks. If you have flakey lips and or wish to temporarily plump lines go for the Langeige. If you are not concerned about flakes or lines lips, I recommend the Buttermask for a mega hydration boost.
