May Birchbox Review

With summer on the way this month’s theme is ‘spread your wings’.  Here are my thoughts on the box:

Lottie London Blush Crush

I’m not generally a fan of powder blusher as I prefer the youthful look of cream blush. However this Zayn shade is so subtle and natural that I really like the way it looks on the skin. I think this versatile, neutral shade would work with any make up look. This is a full sized blusher that retails for £4.95.

Rituals The Ritual of Sakura Hand Balm

IMG_7342This luxurious hand balm is formulated with skin softening shea butter and organic rice milk. I was already a fan of the  delicate cherry blossom fragrance from the body cream of the same range. I love the velvety smooth finish and skin softening properties of this balm. The tube contains 70ml which is a £3.96 value.

Lord & Berry Ultimate Lip Liner

IMG_7313This ‘Vintage Rose’ shade isn’t one that I would’ve purchased forIMG_7336 myself. I really think the beauty of Birchbox that it takes you outside of your usual make up comfort zone at times which can make for a nice change. This is a nice, soft pencil which goes on really easily. Although this long wear pencil has a matte finish, the inclusion of macadamia oil and aloe vera ensure that it isn’t drying on the lips. I used the product as an all over lip colour which lasted through my morning grande latte. I would top with a balm or gloss for some shine in the future just because a matte finish isn’t my personal preference. This mini pencil has £4.55 value.

Beautaniq Beauty Nourishing Mascara

IMG_7332I’m a big fan of the Beautaniq brow gel but it takes a lot for a mascara to impress me so I IMG_7300wasn’t expecting much. Beautaniq managed to impressed me once again!! I really like the shape of the brush which makes it quick and easy to give lashes a good coating. This mascara gave me Bambi lashes and locked my curl in place all day.  There was no flaking or smudging by the end of the day which usually happens to me when I am not using a tubing mascara. If that wasn’t enough (as the name suggests) there is a nourishing benefit to this product too as the formula is enriched with almond oil and oleic acid. My preference is still for tubing mascaras because I’m lazy when I comes to removal but this is a great mascara.  This miniature tube has a £7.50 value.

MIMITIKA SPF50 Face Sunscreen

IMG_7286I’d never heard of this sunscreen brand before receiving a miniature. Not only does Mimitika SPF defend against harmful rays, it also contains the antioxidant vitamin E to hydrate and further protect skin. This is quite a think cream so I was expecting it to be heavy. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this sinks in quickly and beautifully without a white cast. I really like this product. As summer is here a high spf is particularly important so I’m really happy to have a mini for on the go. This 10ml jar is worth £3.50.

Ciaté Dewy Stix

The first thing that struck me about this product was the beautiful packaging. I love the convenience of stick highlighters for on the go. I received the ‘gleam’ shade which is a white gold shimmer in a glossy transparent base. I am huge highlight fan obut my preference is for a smooth finish rather than one with visible shimmer particles so unfortunately this one is not for me. If you like that effect however the stick also has theskincare benefits of murumuru butter and hyaluronic acid.  This is a full size which retails for £22.

Final Thoughts:

As always I was impressed with my birchbox (even though I was really hoping to receive a Phili Kingsley Elasticer!!). The total value of my the box is £46.46. Here I am wearing the sunscreen, blush, masacara and lip liner:
