One way of ensuring a daily moment of luxe is to keep a decadent lip balm on your bedside table and or in your handbag (or both!!). Here are some of my favourites:
Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm
Everything about this balm screams luxe: its frosted glass pot, its heavenly citrusy scent, its fancy French name and its sumptuous feeling on the lips. Nuxe even rhymes with luxe! This balm, made with 80% natural ingredients, nourishes lips with honey, plant oils, shea butter and grapefruit essence. Rêve de Miel is widely used as a lip primer by make up artists as, unlike most balms, it does not add shine but create a smooth canvas for lipstick. If you don’t like the shiny lip look (it takes all sorts!!) then this is the balm for you. Rather than absorbing quickly, this balm remains on the lips for some time, offering a protective barrier from the elements.
By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Care
I’ve long been a fan of the original Baum de Rose and love this convenient twist up stick version for on the go. Formulated with wax and oils of rose blossom and enriched with shea butter and vitamin E; this balm protects lips whilst replenishing lipids and collagen from within whilst ceramides smooth and firm. This nourishing crayon makes lips look plump and juicy and leaves a milky sheen which is perfect for no make up days. The glossy balm is non sticky and of course has the lovely the signature By Terry rose scent.
La Mer The Lip Balm
This lip balm has a velvety texture and gives a nice shine. The luxurious salve is enhanced with the brand’s nutrient-rich miracle broth and a patented lip lipid complex to renew skin and provide a barrier against the elements. This leaves lips kissably soft. I would not advise applying before eating or drinking because the balm has such good staying power that the sweet minty taste is distracting.
Eve Lom Kiss Mix
I love the name, the cooling menthol tingle, the fact that this contains a physical sunscreen (zinc oxide) and the glossy finish this balm gives. The active ingredient in this product is beeswax which seals moisture into lips. This balm contains a very fine pearlescent shimmer which gives a moist, juicy look. A word of caution though, while the balm is colourless when applied to smooth lips, its white hue can collect around dry skin, so be sure to exfoliate first if you have any chapping and are wearing this for cosmetic reasons. Kiss mix can be used on its own or as a glossy top coat for lips and adds a touch of luxe to any handbag or dressing table. Kiss mix also comes in three tinted varieties. I like the shade ‘demure’.
